FADING

“Somewhere Over the Rainbow: The Photographer Among the Crowd”
I had built my own Choi Hung Estate out of fleeting moments.
The 《十四鐵漢》exhibition has successfully concluded. As a continuation, I am presenting this series here in black and white as a special project (Link: Original Color Version). I chose not to include any written descriptions at the venue because I wanted to leave space for imagination, allowing viewers to feel the work in their own way. Just like how I felt on the day I took these photos, everything was spontaneous, without preconceived ideas or frames, forgetting all the images of Choi Hung Estate I had seen before.
I simply wanted to find my own moments in Choi Hung Estate.
This series was shot on a day in December 2024. At that time, news of Choi Hung Estate’s redevelopment had already been confirmed, yet I had never done street photography there. That thought suddenly came to me: I should go photograph it. In just a few short hours, with only one camera and my eyes, I wandered through the fading colors of the estate.
The familiar basketball court, the rainbow-colored backdrop, I searched for my own compositions. A basketball traced an arc through the air and, with a crisp swish, fell through the net. That moment came and went in an instant.
The unfamiliar back stairwell, the passerby, and that sign saying “Watch your head” all felt like fragments of a story about to unfold. Even in the most unremarkable corners, if you look with feeling, moments reveal themselves.
From the Choi Hung Estate, I thought of a photographer who once captured this place through his own feelings. Those moments belonged only to him and to this place.
